Frequently Asked Questions

    • What is ValuOasis? How is it organized?

ValuOasis, a registered Kansas LLC, is a second-generation mission organization with a goal: to help families and individuals improve their lives and to support parents as they pass solid values along to their families.

ValuOasis provides ownership shares to its investors and members. Funds provided to ValuOasis purchase hard assets that support the mission. All transactions are made in US currency, and all units of the LLC are transferable.

    • What is En Gedi? How is it different from local church youth groups?

En Gedi ministers to youths and families in the Kansas City area.  En Gedi maintains a house in the heart of Kansas City, Kansas, which provides a refuge for kids with challenges that are seeking help.

En Gedi serves individuals and families in a variety of ways: by offering community meals, by being a support if a kid is not welcome in his home, or needs help finding transportation to their job so that they can keep it. En Gedi sometimes works with a single kid for years. Kids often show up at En Gedi while trying to live and grow in a broken society or family.

En Gedi is a registered non-profit organization independent from ValuOasis.

    • Does ValuOasis provide or insist on a program that youth groups must follow?

No. ValuOasis does not provide or recommend a program. Youth group leaders and their local churches are well positioned to know the needs and concerns of the individuals in their group.

    • How does ValuOasis encourage families to pass on their values to their kids?

One recent study suggested that a predictor of good family life was the percentage of evening meals spent around the dinner table. We believe that families can discover great value in easy, enjoyable activities like playing miniature golf and sharing a meal together
at a reasonable price. These activities build fellowship, confidence, trust, and bonding around common interests.

For example, prompts around the dinner table may initiate value-based conversations around miniature golf.

    • The Phase One plan includes construction for boat storage on one-fifth of the land. Why build a boat storage space before creating the miniature golf course?

We chose to build boat storage in Phase One for two reasons: First, the storage area will incorporate a workspace that serves as a retreat destination where students can learn life skills such as reading, woodwork, and computer programing under the guidance and mentorship of En Gedi workers. Second, the workspace includes a housing residence for some En Gedi staff.
